Carer Profile: What is a Typical ALHomecare Live-in Carer Like?

Most of our carers come from Eastern Europe to take up live-in positions — over nearly 8 years, we’ve found this region provides the best pool of available carers. We also recruit carers from the UK, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, South Africa, and Ireland.

Most carers are female, aged 30 to 60, with experience caring for their own elderly relatives or working professionally as carers. All have a good to very good level of English, a caring disposition, and a willingness to commit to at least six months of live-in work.

Carers from abroad are drawn to live-in positions because the family offers a complete package of accommodation, food, and a reasonable salary — a better fit for someone travelling from abroad than for someone already settled in Ireland with their own home, family, and friends. Most of our carers are career carers who continue working with ALHomecare for many years because they enjoy this type of work.
